Honoured to have one of
my photos on the cover page of the March 2016 edition of Edmonton Senior
newspaper. This was from an event I
covered on Feb. 8 in the Alberta Legislature Building Rotunda. That’s where nine veterans of the Second
World War were presented with the French Legion of Honour medal to honour their
service.
The French Consul General
Jean-Christophe Fleury awarded medals to each veteran as their loved ones
applauded and cheered. One of those
veterans was Roy Pritchard, featured on the cover photo you see here. Sadly, Mr. Pritchard passed away four days
later on Feb. 12 at the age of 96 years in Edmonton. A remembrance service for him was held on
Feb. 21 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Onoway, Alberta.
To learn more about the
medal ceremony, you can pick up a (free) copy of Edmonton Senior newspaper at newsstands
in most large grocery stores such as Sobeys and Safeway.
