RCAF Commemorative Park opens Sept. 20, 2015

Here’s a few photos I took this afternoon at the new Griesbach Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Commemorative Park.  You're invited to the unveiling ceremony on Sunday, September, 20, 2015.  Please arrive no later than 12:45 p.m. for the 1 p.m. start.  Location:  4470 – McCrae Avenue NW in Edmonton, across from the Kipnes Centre For Veterans.  You’ll find the park at the NW corner of Griesbach Village; arrive early to find parking.

Lieutenant-Governor Lois Mitchell and Major General Al Meinzinger, Deputy Commander of the RCAF, will preside over the ceremony.  A highlight will be unveiling the towering Ad Astra RCAF commemorative monument that was installed a few days ago. Members from 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron will be on parade with the Royal Canadian Artillery Band and more than 100 Air Cadets.

Look upward in the early afternoon that day, the RCAF will conduct a fly past at 600-feet above ground level with Griffon helicopters, a CC-130 Hercules aircraft and a CF-18 fighter jet. News media will cover the event, and members of the Edmonton United Services Institute are expecting about 1,000 spectators.  A reception will be held afterward in the Kipnes Centre.  If you can, stop by to honour this very significant event.   © 2015 Grant Cree photos.
