Members of 408 Tactical Helicopter
Squadron conducted a parade rehearsal with local Air Cadets on the evening of
Monday, Sept. 14, 2015 at the new Griesbach Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF)
Commemorative Park in Edmonton. Also in
attendance were the Commanding Officer and Drum Major of the Royal Canadian
Artillery Band.
They all conducted a thorough
practice of the entire parade to fully prepare for the unveiling ceremony
taking place on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015.
The City of Edmonton declared this week “Royal Canadian Air Force week”
in recognition of the city’s relationship with the RCAF. This week motorists will see the High Level Bridge
lit up at night in RCAF colours.
During the unveiling ceremony, the
city will honour eight RCAF veterans by naming streets after them in the
Village of Griesbach, located in northwest Edmonton. In this blog you’ll see two photos of plaques
describing the military careers of those veterans. This is significant because those two
gentlemen – both World War 2 pilots - are still alive, and will stand beside
their plaque for a photo during the ceremony.
For details regarding the timing and location of the ceremony, refer to my blog post: “RCAF Commemorative Park opens Sept. 20, 2015”. The event organizers hope you can attend to honour the Air Force veterans. © 2015 Grant Cree photos
